Francis Furia

Editor – African Journal of Pediatrics
Francis Furia is an academician in the department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and a clinician at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH). He has a rank of Associate Professor at MUHAS, and works as a medical specialist for general paediatrics, paediatric and adult nephrology at MNH. He is a member of the governing council for the Paediatric Association of Tanzania and a founding member of the Nephrology Society of Tanzania, serving as its Secretary General. He is a fellow of the International Paediatric Nephrology Association and the Royal College of Physicians (London).
Mariam Noorani

Dr. Mariam Noorani is a paediatrician, lactation consultant and educator with expertise in childhood nutrition specifically breastfeeding, medical education and primary care paediatrics. She has experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and has 14 years of experience working with the Aga Khan University and Hospital where she is the Chair of Paediatrics and head of research.
Her work has focused on improving baby friendly hospital initiative practices, strengthening breastfeeding outcomes for employed mothers and improving the quality of postgraduate training.
In addition to her clinical and research roles, Dr. Mariam has collaborated with partners such as the Tanzania Human Genetics Organization and the Ali Kimara Rare Disease Foundation to influence policies in these areas.
Her professional interests include establishing breastfeeding as a primary intervention to improve lifelong health outcomes and generating evidence based practices for teaching and learning in higher education. She is committed to advancing primary pediatric care and promoting lactation education and research across Africa.
Rune Philemon
MD, MMed, DTMH

Dr. Rune Philemon is a pediatrician with expertise in general pediatrics. He has 18 years of experience working with teaching institutions within and outside Tanzania. His work has focused on public health in pediatrics and infectious diseases.
In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Philemon has collaborated with London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Stony Brook University, Cornell University, and Gothenburg University. His professional interests include public health, neurology, disability, and infectious disease. He is committed to access to quality care for all children.
Zawadi Edward Kalezi

Dr Zawadi is a practicing paediatrician in the paediatric cardiology department of Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She also serves as a senior honorary lecturer; training residents and medical students affiliated with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. She is currently a co-coordinator of paediatric residency program and has authored several research papers in the field of paediatric and child health.
Linda Paul Athman
MD, MMed

Dr. Linda Paul Athman is a medical doctor with a background in Pediatrics and Child Health, public health, and research. With over six years of experience in clinical practice and primary health systems, she has worked with POLARG, the Ministry of Health, and NGO’s to advance Newborn, Child and Adolescent health. She is also a member of Paediatric Association of Tanzania and MPDSR steering committee.
She has contributed to key national initiatives in Tanzania, including the updating of the National Essential Health Care Intervention Package (NEHCIP) and the Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) guidelines. As a National trainer for Newborn and Child health, she is actively engaged in building the capacity of healthcare providers.
In addition to her clinical and training roles, Dr. Athman is an author and researcher passionate about strengthening child health systems and promoting evidence-based interventions across Africa.
Elisamia Ngowi
MD, Paediatrics Residency

Dr. Elisamia Ngowi is a senior resident in paediatrics and child health with an interest in child health, health systems, and clinical research. She has 4 years of experience working with Aga Khan Hospital and University as a Paediatrics resident.
In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Elisamia has collaborated with several professionals to publish research works in reputable international journals. He is also a member of the MPDSR steering committee in Tanzania’s ministry of health. He is committed to advancing pediatric care and promoting clinical research in pediatrics and child health in Africa.
